The tale of Deana is strange and mysterious. She’s been a cheetah girl to the town. But loud from inside she is a jaguar from within. Believing in earthly magic she wanted to fly from the top of a mountain. Feeling the air currents leading to different destinations, gliding over the rivers and trees, and feeling the air blowing past her body is what she emulate as life. Every day Deana got the thought that is this the life for her? It is very strange sometimes even for her, but Deana wanted to be born as a Bird. Feeling the freedom of air and infinite possibilities to reach which no one can reach by bus or train, is in her world the perfect choice.

Deana’s home was in the mountains and lived with her grandmother. Her parents has passed away from a car crash when she was little but the estates their family owned gave her a comfortable life. On that day in the morning, a very magical thing happened. Deana was awake early and went to the yard to feed birds in the morning which is one of her hobbies. On the way, she stumbled upon a root of a daisy tree in the yard which is blossoming with flowers, and she fell. With the pain, she felt something is crushed to her belly. Deana threw her hand quickly and grabbed it. Then the most miraculous thing happens. It was a creature very tiny in the body of a little girl with butterfly wings. Deana couldn’t believe her eyes. Suddenly the creature mimicked and started talking, “Please let me go, you are hurting me”. Deana tightened her grip “Who are you, or what are you, no way I’m letting you go. Wait I’m taking you to my Grandma”. When she tried to bring herself together and as she started to run towards the house, the creature spoke again. “I’m the Daisy fairy of this tree, I can grant you a wish for a day if you let me go, please don't take me to humans.”

Just think about it, if what she says is real then what? Deana pause for a second. Her gaze went to the seeds scattered on the ground which she brought to feed the birds. This creature can be a fairy, that’s for sure. Without hesitation or thinking twice she spoke her heart. “Can you make me a bird for a day?”. Still, there is disbelief in her head. The grip released and Daisy Fairy rose to the sky.

“Come to me and play with me,
I’m the babies’ flower;
Make a necklace gay with me,
Spend the whole long day with me,
Till the sunset hour.

May your wish be granted in such,
May you turn to a towhee
Let you roam in the sunlit times
But no picking from a daisy.”

Deana felt a lightness and a burning sensation. The next thing is she’s now a little Towhee of the size of the Daisy fairy. She can sense the feeling of a passing breeze brushing her feathers. Her whole circulatory system is feeling different to her now. Feeling lite and alive, with first-time difficulty she rose to the air. Then the Daisy Fairy spoke again “Deana your wish was granted and this is only valid till sunset where you will turn back into the Human. But one warning, never eats a Daisy at this state or it will bring consequences.”. With agreeing Deana flew her life that day. From mountains to the rivers, taking breaks now and then on top of tall trees, she flew. Singing with the beak and kissing the wind from wings, she lived. Flying to endless destinations, Deana felt alive.

It is the end of the day now and Deana is flying back to her home. As she shares the brain and the body of a bird, she can trace back to where she started. The journey back had been tiring for Deana. It had been hard on her wings, but she had to come back. The worst is hunger. Fluttering the whole day had made it harder. Now it struck her, “My Grandma might be looking for me”. And being a bird for a day had made her think how much she cherished being a human. She missed her Grandma and friends. Missed the TV and the morning soup her grandma makes. Even though she dreamed to become a bird she now felt how precious is human life. She spotted the home and flew in the direction. She landed near the Daisy tree with a sigh. There are few more minutes to get dark. She looked around. She’s hungry to the maximum now. Her gaze landed on the Daisy flowers. She can’t take her eye from it. Even though from mind this Towhee is Deana, she shares the digestive system and a brain of a Towhee. Towhees prefer to feed on Daisies as those are their favorites. Deana remembered the warning from Daisy Fairy, but she can’t resist. She went and pecked on a Daisy flower. Suddenly the whole world went dark and it was night when she woke up again. She tried to stand up from her legs but she can’t. Deana didn’t felt like a human. She saw the feathers intact to her. Daisy Fairy is gazing down at her silently.

“Deana you broke the Taboo I made for you” she broke the silence. “That tree was forbidden for you. Now on you will be a Towhee for the rest of your life darling, now on I can’t help you. Wishes bring consequences with them.” with that, she vanished. Deana couldn’t speak a word. There was a lot she needed to ask and demand, but she’s a bird now without a human tongue. What the Towhees loved had made it the poison apple for Deana.

Moral from the Story…

We all have dreams or characters we cherished to be. It’s completely Ok to chase your dreams. But never forget the person you are before. By chasing material pleasure we will lose ourselves. At that moment you will feel how much the old you matter. We need to build ourselves with our born identity. That’s how we go for dream achieving.

Also, there will be consequences of being somebody else like the Towhee, Deana ate the daisy as there was no other choice in the shoes of a Towhee. This tells us that the mutated personality will make us get things by breaking taboos at which point we won't be coming back and becoming the human we were before. Before all the greed came upon us.
